DreamWorks

Dreamworks is the Animation company I have decided to write about for this critical studies task In 2000 DreamWorks created a new business division that was named DreamWorks Animation, preceding this Dreamworks first noticeable achievement was the special effects that it contributed to James Camerons Terminator 2: Judgment Day. Followed shortly by their first big screen animation "Antz", often as the case is, Dreamworks was compared against the highly commended  "A Bugs Life" created by Pixar which was released the same year. One thing I feel that helped in the increased success of Dreamworks was its collaboration with Aardman Animations, when creating the film "Chicken Run". Aardman already being well established and loved by the public for its "Wallace and Gromit" series could only do good for the life of Dreamworks.

DreamWorks is a very recognizable animation company, they most known for producing computer-generated feature films, however. Despite this they also created films that included both CG technology and traditional animation techniques. Such films as "The Prince of Egypt" and "Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas"

Here you can see a very similar design of characters and colours to the animation. The characters are block coloured using one other colour
From 2004 onwards, dreamworks dedicated their work solely to producing computer animated films, such as "Madagascar" and "Flushed Away" You can often depict a Dreamworks film from the way they anthropomorphise their characters, as many of their films invole animals given the personalities of human beings. You see this in many of their films, for example "Chicken Run" a stop-motion animation about a group of chickens, dreaming about the day that they can finaly escape, and fly over the fence that confines them.

They are also very well known for creating comic animations, such as "Shreck" this is something I believe that separates Dreamworks form other well known 3d animation studios such as Pixar, because whereas Pixars comedy seems to be mainly aimed at for children, Dreamworks has produced such films as "Shreck" and Kung-Fu panda" which seem to appeal to both a younger and older generation. Dreamworks is also well known for the use of famous voice actors, such as in shreck :
Mike Myers
Cameron Diaz
Eddie Murphy
or Kung-Fu Panda:
Jack Black
Jackie Chan
Angelina Jolie
I think this is something that gives Dreamworks an edge over other animated films,is the talent of the voice actors, I feel that using the voices of well established actors can only do the film justice, and although it may be a novelty, I for one love learning that the giraffe from "Madagascar" is Ross from "Friends"! I think this is where Dreamworks strengths lie, in its comedic value

There has always been and will probably always will be a battle betwee...Pixar and Dreamworks, the truth however is that they both make great films, although the general sense i .get is that Pixar is far superior, youve still been given some amazing films by Dreamworks
